Find The Right Words (October)

Finished run

AGES: 14+
TICKETS: £8 (£6 Concession)

Created and compered by Jess Green,  Find the Right Words  is now firmly established as one of Leicester’s best spoken word and rap nights. With support from Toby Campion, the show includes two nationally acclaimed headline acts, ten open mic spots (sign ups from 7.30pm) and the increasingly sought after speed poet spot. Jess is away this month, so Grace Petrie will be compering.

With past headliners including Hollie McNish, Buddy Wakefield, Jackie Hagan, Mark Grist, Harry Baker and Megan Beech, Jess makes sure you get to hear the UK’s top performance poets making the biggest noise in spoken word. The headliners this month are:-

Gabriel Jones – Published poet, writer and music producer from Aberystwyth. He has performed his poetry around the UK including Bestival, Camp Bestival, Bradford Literature festival and Lovebox. He has made work for BBC Falling Tree Project, Edinburgh Fringe, Everyman and Playhouse. He is a current Roundhouse Resident artist, Barbican Young Poets alumni and came first in the 2017 Uni-slam alongside a team from Goldsmiths. Gabriel has recently incorporated music into his work, creating soulful honest pieces that sway between lullaby, stories and head-nodding beats (@GabrielPJones)

Malaika Kegode – Cut her teeth as a poet and performer opening for bands in music venues such as Exeter Cavern and LeftBank. Since then she has gone on to work closely with organisations such as Apples and Snakes, Roundhouse and BBC 1Xtra and is a member of the Raleigh Road Collective. Malaika has performed around the country at theatres, music venues, literary events and festivals such as WOMAD and Boomtown and has supported artists such as Matt Harvey and Saul Williams. She inspires young people as a workshop facilitator. Currently creator and host of Milk Poetry, a regular thriving event in Bristol, her debut collection Requite is now available from Burning Eye Books (@MalaikaFKegode)

Please note there is no pre-show workshop this month
