Created and compered by Jess Green, Find the Right Words is now firmly established as one of Leicester’s best spoken word and rap nights. The show includes two nationally acclaimed headline acts, ten open mic spots (sign ups from 7.30pm) and the increasingly sought after speed poet spot.
With past headliners including Hollie McNish, Buddy Wakefield, Jackie Hagan, Mark Grist, Harry Baker and Megan Beech, Jess makes sure you get to hear the UK’s top performance poets making the biggest noise in spoken word. The headliners this month are:-
Louise Fazackerly – Poet extraordinaire and theatre maker coming to you fresh from the exotic northern streets of Orwell’s Wigan. She tells stories of hope, hurt and humour. Making the ugly beautiful, she celebrates Jarvis Cocker, pigeons and odd socks. Louise has been commissioned by BBC Radio 3 The Verb, published in the Guardian and was North-West Olympic poet. Look out for her adult poetry collections Bird St. and Love Is A Battlefield on the Nymphs & Thugs spoken word label.
Caroline Teague – London born and bred poet writing pieces on loss, identity and how she comes to terms with some harrowing realities of being human and being alive, in a style she calls Tragic Optimism, hoping that the honesty through her writing can translate into something positive and comforting for someone else. Creator of the musical project Caroline Smiling which blends music, spoken word, illustration and other forms of communication to cross platforms for mental health and queer identity through creative means. A self proclaimed soft touch poet with some sharp edges.
