Created and compered by Jess Green, Find the Right Words is now firmly established as one of Leicester’s best spoken word and rap nights. The show includes two nationally acclaimed headline acts, ten open mic spots (sign ups from 7.30pm) and the increasingly sought after speed poet spot.
With past headliners including Hollie McNish, Buddy Wakefield, Jackie Hagan, Mark Grist, Harry Baker and Megan Beech, Jess makes sure you get to hear the UK’s top performance poets making the biggest noise in spoken word. The headliners this month are:-
Tommy Sissons – Has worked on a number of diverse projects with commissions from the likes of Red Bull, BBC Radio 1, VICE magazine and The Guardian to name a few. He has won a number of poetry slam championships and performed across the UK at venues ranging from the Bestival to the Royal Albert Hall. He is a regular presenter of Channel 4 music programme Four to the Floor and was commissioned by the BBC to write a Remembrance Day poem in 2015. His debut poetry collection Goodnight Son was published by Burning Eye Books in 2016 and has been studied at schools and universities internationally. His debut album, We Were All Mud and Halos, was released in January via QM Records.
Molly Naylor – Scriptwriter, director, poet and performer. She is the co-writer and creator of After Hours (Sky One, 2015), a six-part comedy series directed by Craig Cash. She recently wrote and directed her first short film Callback, staring Marcus Brigstocke and Sara Pascoe. Molly’s first solo show Whenever I Get Blown Up I Think Of You debuted at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe to critical acclaim. Her adaptation of the show for BBC Radio 4 was described by the Guardian as a brave, funny, tough and beautiful piece of writing. Her second live show My Robot Heart sold out at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2012.
