Created and compered by Jess Green, Find the Right Words is now firmly established as one of Leicester’s best spoken word and rap nights. The show includes two nationally acclaimed headline acts, ten open mic spots (sign ups from 7.30pm) and the increasingly sought after speed poet spot.
With past headliners including Hollie McNish, Buddy Wakefield, Jackie Hagan, Mark Grist, Harry Baker and Megan Beech, Jess makes sure you get to hear the UK’s top performance poets making the biggest noise in spoken word. The headliners this month are:-
JB Barrington – Salford award winning performance poet renown for his searing and satirical poetry and snarling delivery of strong sentiments and sharp rhymes. He is funny, endearing, nostalgic and a spoken word maestro who provides one of the most powerful performances on the UK scene. JB’s one man shows have been selling out and they’ve been described as a rollercoaster of emotions with a brilliant and imaginative display of poetic writing covering social issues, economics, class and loss. JB has been on tour with Sleaford Mods performing in front of huge sell out crowds across both England and Scotland and he supported The Charlatans on the main stage at Kendal Calling last year plus, as well as performing his own show at Festival No6.
Katie Bonna – Actress, poet and writer for stage and screen. Her one-woman show All The Things I Lied About premiered to critical acclaim at the Paines Plough Roundabout at Summerhall, Edinburgh, in August 2016. The show transferred to Soho Theatre in April 2017, where it was nominated for two Off-Westend Awards (Best Female Performance and Most Promising Playwright) and toured the UK in Autumn 2017. Her play Dirty Great Love Story (co-written with Richard Marsh) transferred to The Arts Theatre in London’s West End in January 2017.
