Created and compered by Jess Green, Find the Right Words is now firmly established as one of Leicester’s best spoken word and rap nights. The show includes two nationally acclaimed headline acts, ten open mic spots (sign ups from 7.30pm) and the increasingly sought after speed poet spot.
With past headliners including Hollie McNish, Buddy Wakefield, Jackie Hagan, Mark Grist, Harry Baker and Megan Beech, Jess makes sure you get to hear the UK’s top performance poets making the biggest noise in spoken word. The headliners this month are:-
Henry Raby – Poet and play-wright from the gritty, mean (and faintly whimsically Harry Potter-esque) streets of York. Raised on a steady diet of punk music, his poetry is a combination of angry and unruly verse highlighting feminism, anarchism and protest movements mixed with tender insights into community, friendship and the tricky art of growing up. His performance style is an anarchic and energetic tumble from cartoons and comics to politics and dinosaurs. His first poetry collection, Nerd Punk, is released through Burning Eye Books in April. Henry is Artistic Director of Say Owt, a spoken word-promoting organisation, and is co-director of Vandal Factory Theatre Company.
Daisy TG – Playwright, poet and ukulele lady from Cambridge, currently based in North West London. Alumni of the Roundhouse Poetry Collective 2016, she has performed regularly across the UK, and at festivals such as Bestival, LoveBox and the Edinburgh Fringe. She is an active member of London Queer Writers, a new London-based collective championing existing and emerging LGBTQ+ talent in the city, hosting monthly writing workshops for developing artists as well as regular open mic event SPEAK =
