Now with a new start time of 7.30pm.
Created and compered by Jess Green, Find the Right Words is now firmly established as one of Leicester’s best spoken word and rap nights, which includes two nationally acclaimed headline acts, ten open mic spots (sign ups from 7.00pm) and the increasingly sought after speed poet spot. The show was nominated for the Saboteur Awards 2018 and Jess won the BBC Edinburgh Fringe Slam 2018. With the support of the never knowingly mainstream Burning Eye Books, Jess makes sure you get to hear the UK’s top performance poets making the biggest noise in spoken word. The headliners this month are:-
Rosy Carrick – Quick-witted, charismatic and full to the brim with surreal and disgusting imagination, Rosy’s eccentric style, dense rhyme structures and forceful imagery have won her international acclaim, as well as firmly cementing her place as one of the UK’s most unusual and exciting contemporary poets. This year Rosy’s critically acclaimed solo performance play Passionate Machine won Best New Play at Brighton Fringe and The Infallibles Award for Theatrical Excellence at Edinburgh Fringe. She will be reading from her new collection Chokey.
Hafsah Aneela Bashir – British Pakistani writer, performance poet and playwright with an MA in Postcolonial Literary and Culture from the University of Leeds. She has a keen interest in writing as a form of resistance and liberty. With a strong focus amplifying marginalized voices, she facilitates and delivers creative writing workshops within the community. Her debut poetry collection The Celox And The Clot launched this October 2018 with Manchester Literature Festival, published by Burning Eye Books.
