Created and compered by Jess Green, Find the Right Words is now firmly established as one of Leicester’s best spoken word and rap nights, which includes two nationally acclaimed headline acts, ten open mic spots (sign ups from 7.00pm) and the increasingly sought after speed poet spot.
The show was nominated for the Saboteur Awards in 2018 and Jess won the BBC Edinburgh Fringe Slam the same year. With the support of the never knowingly mainstream Burning Eye Books, Jess makes sure you get to hear the UK’s top performance poets making the biggest noise in spoken word. The headliners this month are:-
Shareefa Energy – Spoken word poet, writer, mentor and workshop facilitator. Her poetry is raw, honest and consistent against injustice. Witnessing her performing has been described as an almost religious experience. She was awarded with the UK Entertainment Best Poet 2017 Award and a nominee for the Eastern Eye Arts, Culture & Theatre 2019 award by the Arts Council.
Matt Abbott – Poet, educator and activist from Wakefield. His début one-man show Two Little Ducks earned rave reviews and was published as a poetry collection by VERVE last autumn. His narratives blend his experiences as an activist with working-class culture, to create an unapologetic snapshot of contemporary Britain.
Veg’An Love Pop-Up Kitchen: Delicious pies and pizza available from 6.00pm onwards. Pre-order with your tickets or pay on the night (Info).
