Created and compered by Jess Green,  Find the Right Words is now firmly established as one of Leicester’s best spoken word and rap nights, which includes two nationally acclaimed headline acts, ten open mic spots (sign ups from 7.00pm) and the increasingly sought after speed poet spot.

The show was nominated for the Saboteur Awards in 2018 and Jess won the BBC Edinburgh Fringe Slam the same year. With the support of the never knowingly mainstream Burning Eye Books, Jess makes sure you get to hear the UK’s top performance poets making the biggest noise in spoken word. The headliners this month are:-

Rachel Nwokoro – Queer multidisciplinary artist of Nigerian heritage, specifically belonging to the indigenous people of Biafra. And she loves telling stories.  A young, passionate, disabled woman who wants to use her voice for good, Rachel is unapologetic in communication and dedicated to finding platforms for under-represented voices in the arts industry. Rachel was the first international poet specially invited to be poet-in-residence in Mexico. Rachel’s spends most mosts days with a tired heart and the firm belief that we, together, can and must change the world.

Leilah Jane King – Footballer and Bristol-based poet unearthing her Iranian heritage. Midnight Picnics in Tehran her debut pamphlet is published by Burning Eye Books. Leilah explores her Iranian heritage taking you on a tour of the tantalising cities of Iran. Her collection also explores her time in Bristol and Brighton inviting you to navigate your way through sexuality, mental health, and conflict.  Her poetry is comedic yet painfully reflective sharing her experiences of prejudice, conflict and mental health. When she’s not kicking a football around or writing, she spends most of her time with her neighbour’s dog Precious.
ADVISORY: Each poet provides specific warnings before their set.
